From Nov. 30 to Dec. 15, 2024, the 24 best Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports teams will compete in Shanghai, China to become the next Major Champion. Following the PGL Major Copenhagen back in March, the Perfect World Shanghai Major is the second-ever CS2 Major Championship and one of the most significant tournaments of the year.

There are no direct invites, which means every team needs to earn a spot at the Perfect World Shanghai Major via Regional Major Rankings (RMR) events. The 56 teams participating in the three RMR events have been set, so let’s “rush B” and look at all the participants and essential event details.

Shanghai Major Asia-Pacific RMR Teams

With the Perfect World Shanghai Major in China, the Asia-Pacific region has seen a meteoric rise in popularity. In fact, for the Chinese Open Qualifier alone, a whopping 8,643 teams competed for a spot in the Closed Qualifier, where Rare Atom emerged victorious.

Below, you’ll find the teams from the region who were invited to participate based on their position in the Valve Regional Standings leaderboard and then the teams who made it through their respective Closed Qualifier.

PW Shanghai Major APAC RMR Details

The Perfect World Shanghai Major RMR events begin with the Asia-Pacific region as an offline LAN tournament in Shanghai, China, from Nov. 11 to 13. The eight qualified teams will compete for only three spots in the Opening Stage of the Major Championship event.

The LAN tournament will feature a double-elimination bracket format, with the opening matches being BO1 and all other matches being BO3. The top three teams qualify for the Opening Stage of the Perfect World Shanghai Major main event, while the bottom five are eliminated.

Shanghai Major American RMR Teams

Sixteen teams are competing in the Shanghai Major American RMR event. The teams originate from both North and South America. Eight were invited to participate thanks to their position on Valve’s Regional Standings leaderboard. The other eight teams qualified via a South American or North American Closed Qualifier event.

PW Shanghai Major American RMR Details

The Perfect World Shanghai Major American RMR is a LAN event that runs from Nov. 12 to 15, 2024. It takes place in Shanghai, China, at a currently unknown location. All 16 teams will compete in one Swiss System format group. Similar to the European event, the elimination and advancement matches are BO3, and all other matches are BO1.

Organizers use the Buchholz seeding system for matches in Rounds 3 to 5. The top seven will advance to the Perfect World Shanghai Major main event, and the rest will be eliminated. The American RMR event, with the likes of Team Liquid, FURIA Esports, Imperial Esports, and Wildcard Gaming in attendance, is sure to be an electrifying affair.

Shanghai Major European RMR Teams

Europe is considered the most competitive CS2 esports region, which is likely why 32 teams will attend the Shanghai Major European RMR. With 16 teams earning invites via Valve’s Regional Standings leaderboard and another 16 who fought through a qualifier event, the lineup is absolutely stacked.

PW Shanghai Major EU RMR Details

Fans will watch as the qualifying CS2 teams compete from Nov. 17 to 24, 2024. The Perfect World Shanghai Major European RMR tournament is an offline LAN event. The 32 teams are divided into two groups following a Swiss System format. Elimination and advancement matches are BO3, and all other matches are BO1, creating an exciting atmosphere with little room for error.

The tournament organizers will use the Buchholz ranking system to seed teams properly in Round 3 to 5 matches. The top seven teams from each group will earn a coveted spot in the Perfect World Shanghai Major, and the bottom nine of each group will be eliminated, missing out on the huge CS2 event. At the time of writing, the distribution of the team groups is unknown.

All Eyes Are On Shanghai

As we get closer to November, the hype will only continue to grow for the Perfect World Shanghai Major, especially when you consider it’s only the second Major in CS2 esports so far. Plus, the top teams from around the world are set to compete for a spot in the event, and with such high stakes, we’re sure to see some incredible action. Of course, we’ll need to get through the Regional Major Rankings events first, and we can’t wait to see how those play out.
