The 2026 VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) is flipping the script by bringing more events, higher stakes, and an overhauled format to the competitive circuit. Expanded Masters events and a new direct path for Challenger teams to reach Champions will inject extra volatility, making VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 the most unpredictable season yet.
This guide will explain all there is to know about VCT 2026, from the new triple-elimination format for Kickoffs to the new Path to Champions program.
VCT 2026’s New Format Explained
The VCT 2026 season has undergone a structural overhaul designed to create more high-pressure matches and foster a more open path toward VALORANT Champions.
Undoubtedly, the most striking change is the departure from mixed formats to “do-or-die” bracket-style play at every stage, including Kickoff, International League, and global events. This ensures that teams play the same number of matches to qualify for the Playoffs.
To top it off, Kickoff will run for longer and feature a new triple-elimination structure, maximizing the chances for resets.
Triple-Elimination Format At Kickoff
The adoption of a triple-elimination format means that teams will now move through three separate brackets: upper, middle, and lower. This “three-strikes-out” system means there are more opportunities for teams to recover, with each loss dropping them one layer deeper rather than eliminating them outright.
The format not only increases the volume of matches but also reduces the chance of one-off upsets, providing a clearer picture of which teams have truly proven their mettle.

Expanded VCT 2026 Teams For Masters 1 Events
Under this structure, each regional Kickoff (Americas, EMEA, Pacific, and China) will send the top three teams to VALORANT Masters Santiago. This change expands the number of participating teams at the Masters 1 event from eight to twelve partner teams, aligning with the format used for Masters 2 events.
Alongside the returning teams, VCT 2026 introduces four newly promoted contenders: ENVY from the Americas, PCIFIC and ULF representing EMEA, and SLT Seongnam joining from the Pacific league.
These teams replace 2GAME and Apeks, who were relegated from their International Leagues. Gentle Mates were also set to lose their slot, but were re-selected to fill a vacant spot in the partnered league. They replace Movistar KOI, who were expelled from VCT EMEA due to a contractual breach.

Stage 1 Regular Season Format Changes
Once VALORANT Masters Santiago wraps up, Stage 1 will transition into a regular season, splitting each region’s twelve teams into two groups of six.
Every team will play five matches in a single round-robin lasting five weeks, with the top four from each group advancing to the Playoffs and the top three overall qualifying for Masters London. Those who finish in the bottom two of their groups will not progress further.
Stage 2 Playoffs will then take the spotlight as live “destination events” across all regions, serving as a key gateway to VALORANT Champions Shanghai. This means more matches and clutch plays to keep the energy high.

VCT 2026 Masters Schedule & Locations
VCT Masters will return with a two-stop global tour, beginning with Masters Santiago (Feb. 28 to Mar. 15) as the first stop after Kickoff and followed by Masters London (June 6–21) at the end of Stage 1.
Unlike previous years, both events will host twelve teams, expanding the field of competitors and offering even more riveting matchups. Masters Santiago marks the VCT’s first time in LATAM and the first time in South America since LOCK//IN, while the United Kingdom will debut as an international host.

VCT 2026 Challengers Path To Champions Explained
Riot has replaced Ascension with a new direct path from Challengers to Champions.
For the first time, each VCT region will send four Challenger teams to their respective Stage 2 regional Playoffs, where they will compete against International League teams for spots at the sixth annual VALORANT World Championship in China.
The Americas will send four Challenger teams (one each from NA, Brazil, LATAM, and an LCQ), while the EMEA region will take its top four teams based on Challenger points. The Pacific region will send a team each from SEA, Japan, and Korea, with the final spot to be decided through a regional LCQ. VCT China will announce its allocation soon.
To lend a helping hand, Riot will award a $75,000 cash stipend to Challenger teams that make Stage 2 Playoffs to help cover travel and logistical expenses. Those who qualify for Champions will also receive significant compensation from digital goods tied to the event.

Qualification To Champions Through Premier
Following this change, the new journey from Premier to Champions will look like this:
- Win the Invite Division in Premier or a Qualifier for your regional Challenger League.
- Defeat the incumbent team for promotion into Challengers.
- Compete through your regional Challengers season and earn enough placement points.
- Finish as one of your region’s four teams advancing to Stage 2 Playoffs.
- Face International League teams in Stage 2 Playoffs through the Path to Champions.
- Qualify for Champions and compete for the World Champion title.

VALORANT Champions 2026 Shanghai
VALORANT Champions will cap off the VCT 2026 season in Shanghai, China, from September to October.
As in previous years, we expect four teams in each region to qualify for the tournament, either (i) via the Stage 2 Playoffs or (ii) by accumulating enough Championship Points during the year. However, non-partnered Challenger teams can now qualify by advancing through the Path to Champions program.
At the time of writing (early December 2025), Riot has not provided more details about VALORANT Champions 2026. But with the expanded Masters events and a bracket structure at every stage, it’s clear that Shanghai will bring together only the most battle-tested teams to clash for the 2026 VALORANT World Champion title.
