History Of 100 Thieves

In the beginning, Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag was the first of the 100 Thieves! Let’s examine the US-based company’s history to learn about its growth and business accomplishments.

Creation

It all started with Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag, the 2014 Esports Athlete of the Year, former OpTic Gaming team captain, and Call of Duty superstar. After his retirement as an esports athlete, Nadeshot created 100T in November 2017. To this day, Haag leads 100 Thieves’ strategic and creative direction, sitting firmly on the company’s board of directors.

Growth

From 2017 to 2019, 100 Thieves saw massive growth, not only in viewer numbers on Twitch, YouTube, and gaming podcasts on iTunes, but also in Call of Duty esports. The team won multiple Call of Duty League (CDL) Major events, and their League of Legends team made it to a Worlds Championship. Their lifestyle apparel gained support from partners like Lexus, Rockstar, Cash App, and Chipotle.

On Oct. 23, 2018, the org raised $25 million in venture capital funding, and rapper Drake became a co-owner. Then, on July 16, 2019, another $35 million was raised. Since its early days, 100T has established itself as a brand worth investing in.

100 Thieves in 2020 and Beyond

In January 2020, the organization announced Cash App Compound as its headquarters, and it has become the most prominent esports team facility in the United States. The Cash App Compound houses esports training facilities, retail stores, entertainment production spaces, and apparel design facilities, while also functioning as a business headquarters.

In October 2021, 100 Thieves acquired gaming peripheral company Higround, and announced another round of funding ($60 million) on Dec. 2, 2021. While all its astounding business ventures bloomed, 100 Thieves’ esports teams continued to fill their trophy cases.

100 Thieves’ Greatest Accomplishments

In the previous section, we discussed 100 Thieves’ massive growth and business accomplishments as a lifestyle brand and esports organization.

In the esports realm, 100 Thieves owns three franchise teams: featuring the Los Angeles Thieves, a League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) team, and a Valorant Americas League team. The org’s most significant accomplishments in esports undoubtedly come from the LA Thieves.

While 2021 wasn’t a kind year for LA Thieves, they won the CDL 2022 Stage 4 Major and finished the year in style by winning the CDL 2022 Playoffs, dominating Atlanta FaZe with a 5-2 score in the grand final. In 2023, the LA Thieves squad did not slow down, placing second in the CDL Stage 2 Major and winning the CDL 2023 Stage 4 Major.

Los Angeles Thieves Squad

The Los Angeles Thieves (LA Thieves) is the first ever new addition to the Call of Duty League (CDL), popping up after 100T acquired the spot formerly owned by OpTic Gaming. The squad has won two Major trophies since it joined the CDL, but its greatest accomplishment is becoming the world champion by winning the CDL 2022 Playoffs.
