OpTic’s History

Continue reading to embark on a nostalgic journey through OpTic Gaming’s history! While this overview is a mere glimpse into the past, it will surely leave a lasting impression.

The Birth of OpTic Gaming

OpTic Gaming is a household name entrenched in esports history since the early days, especially in CoD. However, unbeknownst to many, the U.S. esports organization stems from humble roots.

The team’s origin story began when friends OpTic KR3W and Enigma formed a CoD 2 sniping team in 2006. However, following Enigma’s departure, the group quickly crumbled before being rescued by Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez in 2007.

Early History of OpTic

Under H3CZ’s leadership, OpTic Gaming debuted in esports under the CoD: Modern Warfare 2 title in 2010. That same year, they closed the season 4th at the MLG National Championships. Not long after, the team made a name for themselves under other CoD titles.

In 2011, OpTic won multiple championships in CoD: Black Ops, including MLG Columbus, MLG Orlando, and CoD XP. They closed the year 3rd at the MLG National Championships, continuing to win more tournaments since then, including MLG X Invitational 2014, ESWC 2015, and MLG World Finals 2015.

These victories solidified their name among the most successful esports organizations worldwide. At the same time, OpTic Gaming dominated YouTube, revolutionizing online entertainment by uploading highlight videos and montages of their CoD gameplay, starting in late 2009.

OpTic’s Esports Expansion

In 2013, OpTic Gaming members moved in together in Chicago, IL, in what became the first-ever content house, giving the Green Wall of fans a glimpse into the competitors’ lives beyond the stage. Over time, H3CZ continued to grow the organization by adding more titles, starting with Halo in 2014.

In the following years, OpTic expanded to Gears of War and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) in 2016, albeit with less success. At this point, OpTic Gaming had become a powerhouse in Halo esports, placing 2nd at the HCS Pro League Fall Finals (2016) and winning the Halo World Championship the next year.

OpTic Gaming eventually acquired teams in League of Legends and Dota 2 (2017), Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (2018), and Rocket League, Valorant, and Apex Legends (2022). These expansions attracted high-profile names, such as Scump, FormaL, and MentaL, adding to OpTic’s prestige.

Recent Years of OpTic

OpTic Gaming’s parent brand, Infinite Esports & Entertainment, was acquired by Immortals Gaming Club in 2017, with H3CZ retiring to co-lead NRG Esports. However, H3CZ reacquired the brand in 2020, with OpTic merging with the now-defunct Envy Gaming a year later. Soon after, the CoD League (CDL) team OpTic Texas was born.

Nearly two decades after its inception, OpTic is widely considered one of the greatest esports organizations ever, backed by its massive fanbase. Today, OpTic has world-class players in CoD, Halo, Apex Legends, Rocket League, and Overwatch (as Dallas Fuel), with most other rosters retired.
