The Thunderpick World Championship (TWC) 2025 South America Series 2 was the fourth regional qualifier leading to our Valve-sanctioned Closed Qualifier. Just like the SA Series 1 event, the SA Series 2 exceeded expectations. Sparks flew in close matches throughout the tournament as the 12 teams competed for a coveted spot in the Closed Qualifier and their share of the $25,000 prize pool.

ODDIK’s Beautiful Playoffs Run
All-Brazilian side ODDIK made it to the Grand Final of the SA Series 1 event before losing to Imperial Esports. As one of the teams directly invited to the Playoffs Stage, and with in-game leader (IGL) Adriano “WOOD7” Cerato spearheading their strategies, this squad was out for redemption.
Starting in the Quarterfinals of Series 2, ODDIK faced off against Flamengo Esports. On Ancient, ODDIK was in a narrow lead on the T side (7-5) and then pulled ahead on the CT side to close out the map 13-9. They dominated the following map, Dust2, on the CT side (10-2) and secured a final score of 13-2, winning the series 2-0.
In the Semifinals, ODDIK faced Fluxo in another Brazilian derby. Fluxo got off to a strong start, winning 13-10 and putting their foes on the brink of elimination. However, ODDIK refused to go down, winning Train in a close 13-11 affair.
On the third and deciding map, Dust2, ODDIK again demonstrated their prowess. They went up 10-2 on the CT side and finished off their opponents 13-2 to complete the reverse sweep and move on to the Grand Final.
9z Team Survives The Group Stage
It wasn’t an easy journey to the Grand Final for 9z Team as they fought hard through the Group Stage of the TWC 2025 SA Series 2. After beating Bounty Hunters 2-0 in the opening match of Group B, 9z ran into the brick wall known as Flamengo Esports.
Flamengo beat 9z with a relatively clean 2-0 (13-7 on Dust2 and 13-9 on Mirage) in the Winners Match. 9z then had to fight their way past Keyd Stars in the deciding match of Group B, managing to win 13-10 on Nuke and 13-8 on Inferno to secure a spot in the Playoffs Stage.

9z Team Fights Through The Playoffs
With momentum from the Group Stage on their side, 9z Team faced their next opponents in the Quarterfinals: the on-form, all-female squad FURIA Fe. 9z got off to a flying start on Inferno, but FURIA Fe quickly retaliated to make many rounds quite close. However, 9z managed to stabilize and win the map 13-5.
On Nuke, 9z took a commanding lead and maintained their composure to close out the map 13-6 and the series 2-0, eliminating FURIA Fe and moving on to the Semifinals.
In the Semifinals, 9z faced off against RED Canids, boasting an on-form IGL AndrĂ© “drop” Abreu and the legendary Marcelo “coldzera” David. Mirage was a tough first map for 9z, as the Canids pulled ahead in the second half to win 13-9.
On the brink of elimination, 9z showed their big-match temperament, mounting a comeback to win Ancient 13-10 and Train 13-9. With the win, they eliminated RED Canids and moved on to face ODDIK in the Grand Final.
A Thrilling Grand Final
On Sunday, July 13, we were treated to a fantastic Grand Final between ODDIK and 9z Team. The teams duked it out in a best-of-three series, starting on Ancient with an absolute banger.
ODDIK got off to a strong start and took an 8-4 lead on the CT side. But 9z bounced back in the second half to tie Ancient 12-12. Overtime was required to separate the sides.
The finalists played through three overtimes, keeping us on the edge of our collective seats. In the end, it was 9z who narrowly came out on top with a 22-20 score.
With momentum from the huge overtime win on their side, 9z had a powerful T side showing on Nuke, going up 9-3 in the first half. Despite ODDIK’s efforts, they couldn’t deny their opponents, who finished off Nuke 13-9 to win the series 2-0.
Our favorite highlight from the Grand Final comes from 9z’s Luca “Luken” Nadotti, who scored four kills in the third round on the B site.

The TWC 2025 Closed Qualifier will occur in September, followed by the main event in October. In the highly anticipated main event, eight teams (four direct invites and four qualified) will compete on LAN in Malta from Oct. 15 to 19 for a share of $850,000.
