After years of pleading from fans, Riot Games is finally releasing VALORANT on console: to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. As announced at the Summer Game Fest, players in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Europe, and Japan can sign up for exclusive limited beta access to play VALORANT from June 14, 2024.

Want to know more? Join us as we detail everything you need to know about the VALORANT console release, limited beta, crossplay, and cross-progression support. We’ll also discuss how Riot has preserved the same high level of competitive integrity for console gamers.

How Can I Play VALORANT on Console?

To participate in the VALORANT console beta, just follow these steps to secure your access and start playing on your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S:

  • Go to the official VALORANT beta sign-up page at beta.playvalorant.com.
  • Click on “Register Now.”
  • Log in with your Riot account. If you already have an account from playing other Riot games like League of Legends on PC, you can simply log in with those credentials. Otherwise, you can create one for free if you don’t have an account.
  • And that’s all! You should receive confirmation of your registration for the VALORANT console limited beta.

Remember, there’s no guarantee you will get an invitation. If you’re invited, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to access the game. You’ll also be able to invite five friends with your personal referral link. Unfortunately, you won’t get extra invites if you’ve joined the beta using a referral link.

Note: As of June 16, 2024, the VALORANT console limited beta is only available to residents of North America, Europe, and Japan who own an Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5 consoles. Also, registrants must have a VALORANT account in good standing (meaning no bans or suspensions on VALORANT or at a Riot level).

Maps & Game Modes

Riot Games will adopt a staged rollout of maps for VALORANT on consoles. In particular, the limited beta will launch with only four maps—Ascent, Bind, Haven, and Abyss—for Unrated, Swiftplay, and Deathmatch game modes. All Team Deathmatch maps will be available at launch.

Sunset will come out on June 25, while Lotus and Icebox will be released on July 9 and July 23, respectively. It’s important to note that only the core, non-competitive game modes will be available at launch. Competitive matchmaking will only be added once players have enough time to settle in.

Alice Labrecque, Riot Games’ Community Manager, explained in an Xbox Wire blog post that this gradual rollout of maps is intended to prevent newcomers from feeling overwhelmed initially. This approach allows players to familiarize themselves with each map progressively during the beta phase.

How Long Will VALORANT’s Console Limited Beta Last?

As of June 16, 2024, Riot has not indicated when the VALORANT console limited beta will end. According to the official support page, the beta will continue until the developers are confident that the servers and code are “fully locked and loaded.” However, players will be notified about the beta end date well in advance.

Are There Any Benefits For Xbox Game Pass Users?

Yes! If you’re an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, you can enjoy some amazing perks in VALORANT. Right off the bat, you’ll unlock access to the complete roster of agents. This means you’ll bypass the usual grind of Dailies and Weekly Missions or the need to cough up your hard-earned Kingdom Credits.

Best of all, this benefit applies to existing agents and any new agents added in future updates. Whenever a new character is introduced, Game Pass subscribers will have immediate access from the get-go, allowing you to learn the agent’s mechanics and gain an edge in Competitive Mode.

Note: Xbox Game Pass benefits do not carry over to PlayStation. You’ll need to subscribe to PlayStation Plus to get the same perks.

Will VALORANT Console Have Crossplay?

VALORANT will only support crossplay between PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S consoles—not PC. This means that console players can only play with and against other console users. In addition, they will be restricted to playing with controllers, while PC users will be limited to using a keyboard and mouse.

Controller Tuning

As explained in the “Bringing VALORANT to Consoles // Dev Diaries,” Riot tuned each agent’s abilities and gameplay to match the console’s controller-based input system. For example, the console version does not feature traditional hip firing. Instead, it uses a “Focus” mode with reduced sensitivity.

This adaptation was vital to retain the game’s high standard of tactical play and precision (especially during those critical one-taps). It also ensured that players on each platform can compete in environments that best suit their input methods—be it KB&M or controller—without compromising fairness.

Beyond this, Riot Games has given assurance that the development team relied heavily on the feedback of high-level players to fine-tune these adjustments to ensure the console version of VALORANT did not feel like a simplified or diluted version of the game.

Important: Riot has emphasized that the console version of VALORANT is designed to be played with a controller, and any attempts by players to spoof their inputs will lead to their accounts being banned.

Will VALORANT Console Have Cross-Progression?

Yes! VALORANT will support cross-progression to ensure PC and console players share a connected experience. All account content will be shared, including any purchases and game progress made during the limited beta. Similarly, any purchases and progress made during the beta will carry over to the full release.

The shared content includes account level, currencies (including VALORANT Points, Kingdom Credits, Radianite Points), recruited agents, weapon skins, battle pass (and progression), and mission progress (e.g., daily, weekly, etc.). VALORANT players on consoles will have a separate rank and MMR system.

Are You Ready For VALORANT On Console?

With the beta in full swing, we’re hopeful that Riot will collect the information they need from players to confidently roll out VALORANT to console players before the end of the year—if not sooner! It’ll certainly be interesting to see how the console community reacts to the beloved team-based shooter. Will the game see a rise in popularity now that you can play it on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S? It’s difficult to say at this point, but we’re sure plenty of players will check it out, both during the beta and its proper release.

While we wait for VALORANT to officially launch on consoles, you can stay up to date on the game’s esports community on our live betting page! It features all the information you need about the latest tournaments, including live streams of every match and the opportunity to bet on the action as it happens.
