When a teammate disconnects, the odds are immediately stacked against you, which is why knowing how to remake in VALORANT can be your Hail Mary. It can save you from frustrating 4v5 scenarios and, more importantly, prevent you from de-ranking.

This guide explains exactly how remakes work in VALORANT, when you can trigger them, and what happens once the vote is over. By the end, you’ll have intel that makes you immune to unfair losses and the ability to protect your rank when a match goes sideways.

What Is A Remake In VALORANT?

A remake is a feature added in VALORANT Patch 1.07 (Sept. 1, 2020) that allows a team to end a match early if a teammate disconnects during the first round. Instead of forcing you into an unwinnable 4v5 situation, you can vote to end the game instantly with no penalties to anyone but the inactive player.

If the vote is unanimous, the match ends instantly, and you can requeue with no RR (Rank Rating) or XP loss. It’s basically a reset button that protects you from an unfair start.

ft. Riot Games

How To Remake In VALORANT: Step-by-Step Process

Although Riot rolled out Automatic Remake Voting, you can still initiate a manual remake in VALORANT, and it’s super simple. Just follow these steps:

Wait for the buy phase of round two.

Open the in-game chat box.

Type “/remake” (without the quotation marks) and hit Enter.

A vote will pop up for all connected teammates.

Each connected teammate will be asked to vote “/yes” (F5) or “/no” (F6) in the chat.

A remake will initiate if the majority of players (i.e., if three of the four connected teammates) agree to it.

The remake vote will last for the duration of the second round buy phase. If the vote is not passed during this window, it will expire, and the match will continue as normal.

Note: Initially, all connected players on the affected team needed to agree to a remake. However, in Patch 10.00 (Jan. 7, 2025), Riot introduced Automatic Remake Voting and required that only three out of the remaining four players vote “yes” for a remake to be successful.

When Can You Remake? Conditions And Restrictions

Unfortunately, you can only trigger a remake in VALORANT under very specific conditions.

You can remake only if all of the following are true:

A teammate disconnected or went AFK during the buy phase or first round.

The disconnected player left before the first round ended.

A remake is initiated before the round two buy phase ends.

At least three of the four remaining teammates voted in favor of a remake.

You are not playing in a five-person premade party.

If your situation is different, you won’t be allowed to remake the match, and it will have to play out normally.

ft. Riot Games

VALORANT Console Remake Restrictions

In Patch 9.0 (June 25, 2024), Riot disabled remakes for VALORANT on console due to an issue where navigating the Surrender and Remake menus caused player controls to lock for an entire round. Because of this risk, Riot turned both menus off until the team can ship a proper fix.

While draw votes still work, console players cannot start or participate in remakes until the feature is re-enabled in a future patch. The fix was originally expected around Patch 9.02 but is still not re-enabled as of Patch 11.10.

What Happens After A Remake Vote? Benefits And Consequences

When a remake vote passes in VALORANT, the match is canceled, and everybody is sent back to the queue. This prevents wasting any more time playing an unfair matchup. Importantly, the game won’t appear as a loss in your match history, and you’ll keep all your RR, XP, and MMR. It’s as if the game never happened.

The only person affected is the disconnected player, who will be penalized for going AFK or queue dodging. In such cases, any of the following escalating penalties will apply:

Penalty

What It Means

Duration / Impact

Warning

The system notifies you that AFK/queue dodge behavior was detected.

No duration; informational only.

XP Denial

You earn 0 XP for the match where the infraction occurred.

1 match.

Rank Rating Deduction

You lose RR for AFKing or queue dodging in Competitive.

–6 to –24 RR (per match).

Teamplay Restriction Timer

You cannot queue for team modes (e.g., Unrated, Competitive, Swiftplay). Riot Games

Why Use The Remake Feature In VALORANT?

Remakes exist for one simple reason: to protect you from unfair losses when a teammate disconnects early. It wouldn’t be fair for Riot to force you into a 4v5 match that tanks your MMR and RR, especially when the situation is out of your control.

The remake system prevents that from happening by resetting the match before it becomes unwinnable, sparing you both frustration and wasted time. The feature was introduced in Patch 1.07 in direct response to community demand for balanced and fair games following months of abuse.

Since remakes only activate during highly disadvantageous situations (i.e., early in the game), they don’t disrupt regular matches. Best of all, Riot has committed to monitoring the system and making adjustments as needed.

On Sept. 15, 2025, Riot confirmed that adjusting penalties led to a 20% decrease in AFKs and queue dodging in Competitive, proving that harsher punishments and remakes meaningfully improved match quality.

Frequently Asked Questions About Remaking In VALORANT

Here are a few answers to the most common questions about remakes in VALORANT.

When Can I Use The Remake Option?

You can only remake if a teammate disconnects during the initial buy phase or first round. When this happens, Riot will trigger an automatic remake vote during the buy phase of round two if the disconnected player has not yet reconnected.

What If My Teammate Leaves After Round 1?

You can’t remake if your teammate leaves after round 1. The VALORANT remake feature is not available after the end of the first round, and the match will continue as normal.

Can I Remake In A Full 5-Stack Party?

No. Remakes (including automatic ones) will not trigger in five-player parties to prevent coordinated abuse.

What If Not Everyone Votes “Yes”?

After Patch 10.0, remakes no longer require a unanimous vote. Only three of the four connected teammates must vote “yes” for the remake to pass. If most players vote “yes” before the buy phase ends, the match resets.

Will My Stats, XP, Or Rank Suffer If I Remake?

No. Remakes cancel the match entirely, which means none of the connected players will incur RR, MMR, or XP loss. It will also not appear as a defeat in your match history.

Will The Disconnected Player Get A Penalty?

Yes. The disconnected player will incur escalating penalties, including XP deductions, RR loss, queue restrictions, and (in severe cases), temporary bans for repeated offenses.

Why Is The Remake Feature Disabled On Console?

The remake menu is disabled for VALORANT on console due to a bug that can lock player controls for an entire round. Riot will re-enable the feature once the issue is fixed.

Always practice Responsible Gambling and check out our latest promo offers and boosts.
