The Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Rio 2026 is a top-tier LAN event featuring the world’s best players, and it takes place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from April 13 to 19. To get there, 13 Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports teams received direct invites based on their placement in the global VRS. That brings us to the IEM Rio 2026 Global Qualifier, where two more spots are up for grabs.

Let’s discuss all the essential details of the IEM Rio 2026 Global Qualifier, including the tournament format and schedule, competing teams, and who we think may earn those spots.

IEM Rio 2026 Global Qualifier Schedule & Format

Running from Jan. 21-23, the IEM Rio 2026 Global Qualifier is an online event played on the European servers. It’s seen as a “Tier 1 Qualifier” by Valve and will feature 16 teams.

The tournament features a double-elimination bracket where all matches are best-of-three. It uses the updated competitive map pool, where Train was replaced Anubis.

Prize Pool Distribution

There is no prize pool for the IEM Rio Global Qualifier. Instead, the 16 teams are fighting for one of two spots in the main event, IEM Rio 2026.

That said, the main tournament boasts a $1 million prize pool, with $300,000 in Player Share and $700,000 in Club Share. Stay tuned for our IEM Rio 2026 betting predictions, which will feature all the vital event details.

The final IEM Rio 2026 main event spot will be decided by the American qualifier (Jan. 21-23).

Our IEM Rio 2026 Global Qualifier Predictions

Three of the top teams playing at IEM Rio 2026 Global Qualifier—HEROIC, GamerLegion, and PARIVISION—are also competing at the BLAST Bounty 2026 Season 1 Finals, live in Malta from Jan. 22 to 25. In our expert opinion, those teams may have a sharper focus on their opponents in the LAN final, creating some uncertainty for this online qualifier.

We considered that and a number of other factors, including recent matchup histories, roster changes, and VRS rankings, to create our IEM Rio 2026 Global Qualifier predictions.

Important: These predictions reflect the perceived strength of teams based on historical trends. This analysis should not be interpreted as betting advice. Past performance does not guarantee future outcomes. Always gamble responsibly.

PARIVISION

During the offseason, PARIVISION struck gold by signing ex-Team Spirit rifling prodigy, Ivan “zweih” Gogin. In their first top-tier outing with zweih on the roster, PARIVISION showed no mercy at the BLAST Bounty 2026 Season 1 Closed Qualifier as they demolished ENCE 2-0 in the first round.

Led by veteran AWPer Dzhami “Jame” Ali, PARIVISION took down Astralis 2-0 to qualify for the LAN finals of BLAST Bounty 2026 Season 1. Their recent performance showcases their unreal strength, which is why we have PARIVISION as our top pick for the IEM Rio 2026 Global Qualifier.

The squad is currently ranked #14 on the VRS, the highest of any team competing.

PARIVISION roster:

  • Ivan “zweih” Gogin
  • Emil “nota” Moskvitin
  • Andrey “BELCHONOKK” Yasinskiy
  • Vladislav “xiELO” Lysov
  • Dzhami “Jame” Ali (IGL)
  • Dastan “dastan” Aqbaev (Coach)

BC.Game Esports

Ranked #22 on the VRS after picking up a trio of Portuguese players from SAW and G2 Esports’s former coach, we think BC.Game Esports will keep climbing the ranks. After all, the squad boasts CS:GO GOAT, Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, and his ex-NAVI teammate, Denis “electroNic” Sharipov.

BC.Game Esports has enough firepower to overwhelm most teams competing at the IEM Rio 2026 Global Qualifier. That’s why we think they’ll clinch the other spot at the main event alongside PARIVISION.

BC.Game Esports roster:

  • Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev
  • Denis “electroNic” Sharipov
  • Christopher “MUTiRiS” Fernandes
  • Adones “krazy” Nobre
  • António “aragornN” Barbosa
  • Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas (Coach)

GamerLegion

GamerLegion performed impressively at BLAST Bounty 2026 Season 1 Closed Qualifier, first showing their big-match temperament by pulling off a reverse-sweep comeback against Passion UA.

The squad went on to shock Aurora Gaming in the second round, sending the Turkish team home early. Based on their recent performances, we think GamerLegion, ranked #20 on the VRS, has a shot at a top-two finish.

GamerLegion roster:

  • Fredrik “REZ” Sterner
  • Sebastian “Tauson” Tauson
  • Oldřich “PR” Nový
  • Milan “hypex” Polowiec
  • Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski (IGL)
  • Adrian “imd” Pieper (Coach)

HEROIC

With young Danish IGL Christoffer “Chr1zN” Storgaard at the helm, HEROIC recently impressed at the BLAST Bounty 2026 Season 1 Closed Qualifier. After eliminating Friendly Campers with a clean 2-0 win in the first round of play, HEROIC went on to defeat paiN Gaming with another 2-0 score, punching their ticket to the LAN final in Malta.

HEROIC currently ranks #18 on the VRS and is seen as one of the top teams playing in the IEM Rio 2026 Global Qualifier. If the team can keep up their solid recent form, there’s a chance they’ll make it to the main event.

HEROIC roster:

  • Yasin “xfl0ud” Koç
  • Linus “nilo” Bergman
  • Älımjan “Alkaren” Bıtımbai (on loan)
  • Tim “susp” Ångström
  • Christoffer “Chr1zN” Storgaard (IGL)
  • Tobias “TOBIZ” Theo (Coach)

Which Teams Will Qualify For IEM Rio 2026?

With only two spots at the IEM Rio 2026 main event on the line, these teams won’t hold back in the Global Qualifier. But exactly who will end up in Rio remains to be seen, of course. Can Ivan “zweih” Gogin propel PARIVISION to victory? Will the star-studded roster of BC.Game Esports claim a top-two finish, or will GamerLegion and HEROIC dominate?
