Mythic Essence In League Of Legends

Mythic Essence is a special currency in League of Legends that serves as your golden ticket to some of the rarest and most exclusive cosmetics in the entire game. However, you cannot grind it or buy it directly. Riot has also retired many legacy acquisition routes, making every single drop ultra valuable.

This guide details everything about Mythic Essence in League of Legends. You’ll learn what it is, where to spend it, and all the ways to get it. We’ll also touch on which older strategies to avoid and share some advanced tips to maximize your ME balance before the next Mythic Shop rotation.

What Is Mythic Essence And Why Is It Valuable?

Mythic Essence (or “ME”) is a special ultra-rare currency in League of Legends that never expires. Once obtained, you can use it to unlock cosmetic content of equivalent rarity via the Mythic Shop.

Unlike Riot Points (RP) or Blue Essence (BE), you cannot buy or farm Mythic Essence through normal matches. You can only obtain it through specific reward systems. This is the reason it’s so valuable and why many players hoard it until exclusive or limited-time items rotate into the Mythic Shop.

Riot introduced Mythic Essence on March 29, 2022 (Patch 12.6) as part of their “Mythic Content Overhaul” to replace Gemstone and Prestige Point systems. Today, it functions as the main currency for the most sought-after cosmetics, especially returning Prestige skins and other collector items.

How To Spend Mythic Essence

You can spend Mythic Essence exclusively at the Mythic Shop, which you’ll find under the Loot tab in the League of Legends game client.

After the Shops Update on March 18, 2025, the Mythic Shop now rotates content independently across different sections, including Featured, Bi-Weekly, Weekly, and Daily, at varying prices and has both new and “unvaulted” (or previously released) items.

These are all the items you can unlock with Mythic Essence in the Mythic Shop:

  • Unvaulted Prestige Skins
  • Unvaulted Mythic Skins
  • New Prestige Skins
  • Mythic Emotes
  • Animated Emotes
  • Mythic Chroma + Icon (requires Mythic Skin ownership)
  • Event Chromas & Accessories
  • Nexus Finishers
  • Achievement Titles

Prestige skins are typically the most expensive rewards, while smaller cosmetics like Icons and Emotes are the cheapest. For example, the Prestige Dark Cosmic Diana Skin can sell for 150 ME, while the Dark Star Yorick (Quasar) Chroma and Space Groove Rumble Chroma Icon sell for 35 ME and 5 ME, respectively.

Here are the typical price ranges of content in the Mythic Shop:

Complete List Of Ways To Get Mythic Essence

There are many ways to obtain Mythic Essence in League of Legends, including:

  • Rolling in the Sanctum using Ancient Sparks
  • Completing the Premium Battle Pass reward tracks
  • Opening Hextech Chests
  • Reaching specific Summoner Level milestones after Level 150
  • Opening Event Orbs and Grab Bags with ME drop chances

Not all methods predictably grant Mythic Essence. Some offer guaranteed ME, like Premium Battle Pass rewards and leveling milestones, while others depend entirely on random drops from the Sanctum, Hextech Chests, or Battle Pass loot.

You can learn all about the different Mythic Essence acquisition methods below, including how they work, drop rates, milestone rewards, and tips for maximizing each channel.

The Sanctum (Gacha System Rewards and Drop Rates)

The Sanctum is currently the primary way to get Mythic Essence, especially for League of Legends players chasing larger amounts.

Through the Sanctum, you’re able to spend Ancient Sparks (purchasable for 400 RP each) for a chance to pull exclusive rewards. There are two rotating gacha pools or “banners”: Exalted Skins and Mythic Variants, each featuring different cosmetic reward tiers, randomized drop rates, and pity counters.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

TierDrop RatePity CounterRewards
S-tier0.5%80 Pulls (Exalted) 40 Pulls (Variant)Featured Exalted Skin orMythic Variant (+ 100 ME)
A-tier10.0%10 Pulls (Every 10th Spark)Exclusive Chromas, Emblems, Banners, Accessories, Skins, and more
B-tier89.5%Mythic Essence, Icons, and Emotes

The Sanctum has a fixed 89.5% drop rate for the entire B-tier, where Mythic Essence is the main reward you can pull while rolling for cosmetic prizes. However, the Sanctum uses a chance-based gacha system, so there is no guarantee that you’ll draw Mythic Essence every time.

Depending on the reward type and banner, Mythic Essence can appear in increments of 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 ME. However, most pulls will yield 5–10 ME, as higher increments have increasingly lower drop rates. Icons and Emotes can also include an additional 2 ME to give smaller pulls a little extra value.

Here are the Mythic Essence drop rates from the Sanctum reward table:

RewardDrop Rate
5 Mythic Essence51.37%
10 Mythic Essence9.129%

25 Mythic Essence0.6265%
50 Mythic Essence0.179%
100 Mythic Essence0.0895%
Variable Mythic Essence *0.50%

Note: The Sanctum has duplicate protection. If you clear a banner’s A-tier or S-tier reward pool and would otherwise roll a duplicate, you’ll receive a variable Mythic Essence payout instead (e.g., 20 ME for A-tier or 130 ME for S-tier).

Battle Passes

The Battle Pass (previously “Event Pass”) is the most reliable way to earn Mythic Essence in League of Legends because it provides guaranteed rewards rather than random loot drops.

While anyone can progress the free track, upgrading to the Premium Battle Pass (or “paid track”) for 1,650 RP will guarantee you get 25 ME upon reaching its reward milestone. There are also extra prizes available exclusively via the paid track, such as Ancient Sparks, Event Orbs, Orange Essence, and more.

In addition to the Premium Pass, higher-tier bundles are also available if you want extra content upfront. For example, the Premium Pass Bundle costs 3,650 RP and adds 10 Pass Levels, an Icon, and a bonus 25 Mythic Essence on top of the 25 ME you can earn upon reaching the pass milestone.

Here’s a breakdown of the different Battle Pass tier offerings:

Event Orbs earned through the Battle Pass not only contain guaranteed random Skin Shards, but also have a 5.4% chance to drop 10 Mythic Essence. To top it off, there’s a 3.5% chance to drop a Grab Bag, which includes 3–4 guaranteed Skin Shards, plus a bonus 5% chance for 2 Skin Shards and a 5.4% chance to drop an extra 10 ME.

These rewards make the Premium Battle Pass one of the fastest and most predictable ways to get Mythic Essence, especially if you’re already planning to complete the event. The only downside is that you have to spend RP. Still, compared to random loot drops, you have a much clearer path to guaranteed ME.

Note: The exact ME milestone reward may vary, with some special Battle Passes like the Worlds 2025 Pass doubling the ME milestone reward.

Chests, Capsules, And Loot Milestones

After Riot’s Dev Update on Feb. 2, 2025, Hextech Chests are now the only real loot box system left in League of Legends.

Every Chest requires a Key to open, which you can easily obtain for free via the Battle Pass, Honor Objectives, or special promotions. If you’d prefer to skip the grind, you can also purchase a Key or Chest separately from the store for 125 RP, a Chest + Key combo for 195 RP, or bulk up with an 11-pack bundle for 1,950 RP.

Once unlocked, Hextech Chests yield various rewards, from Skin Shards to Summoner Icons and Orange Essence. They can also drop 10 Mythic Essence, a bonus Chest + Key, or Mythic Skin Permanent in addition to their regular content. ME can also drop from these bonus Chests, slightly boosting your chances.

Although Hextech Chests have “bad luck protection” that guarantees Mythic Essence after at least 50 chests, their low 2.68% ME drop rate makes them an unreliable way to farm ME in League

Note: Riot has retired many loot-based methods of farming Mythic Essence. Masterwork Chests and Mastery Rewards were discontinued after Patch 25.01 on Jan. 7, 2025. Riot also replaced Honor Orbs and Capsules with Battle Pass XP drops in Patch 25.04 on Feb. 2, 2025.

Leveling Rewards

You can also earn Mythic Essence passively by leveling up your League of Legends account, though it takes significant time and effort.

Every 50 Summoner Levels past Level 150 will grant 10 ME (e.g., Levels 200, 250, 300, and so on) through Glorious Champion Capsules, alongside other rewards like Blue Essence and Champion Shards. This means you’ll get Mythic Essence without spending a penny simply by leveling up your account over time.

That said, the process is painfully slow, but still rewarding for many collectors, especially when combined with the other methods we’ve discussed.

Additional & Special Methods (Orbs, Bags, Event Shops)

Besides the Sanctum, Battle Pass, Hextech Chests, and Glorious Champion Capsules, there are only a handful of other ways to get Mythic Essence in League. These methods are less reliable, but certainly worth knowing about:

  • Event Orbs: There is a 5.4% chance that Event Orbs (e.g., Fiendish Frenzy Orbs or Wyldbloom Orbs) can drop 10 ME and a 3.5% nested chance to drop a Grab Bag. Event Orbs are available exclusively through the paid track of the Battle Pass or via Event Orb bundles.
  • Grab Bags: There is a 5.4% chance that Grab Bags will drop 10 ME. However, they cannot be purchased separately and can typically only be obtained as a rare 3.5% random bonus drop when opening Event Orbs or purchasing Orb Bundles for RP.
  • Event Rewards: Though not guaranteed, certain events may offer Mythic Essence as a reward for completing special missions or objectives.

Note: You can no longer disenchant Skin Shards for Mythic Essence, as they convert into Orange Essence instead. Likewise, Champion Shards disenchant into Blue Essence. You also cannot trade 2,200 Event Tokens for 125 ME, as Riot replaced the legacy Event Pass and Token Shop with the Battle Pass.

Fastest Ways To Get Mythic Essence

The fastest way to get Mythic Essence in League of Legends is to buy the Premium Battle Pass and progress through its reward track.

This is because the Battle Pass offers you a guaranteed 25 ME upon reaching the milestone reward. As you level up, you can then use the extra loot earned along the way, such as Ancient Sparks, Event Orbs, and Hextech Chests, for additional chances to add even more ME to your balance.

Here’s the best route to rack up Mythic Essence:

  • Buy the Premium Battle Pass for 1,650 RP.
  • Complete the Battle Pass milestone that rewards 25 ME.
  • Open the Event Orbs and Hextech Chests you earn from the pass.
  • Use any Ancient Sparks from the pass to roll in the Sanctum.

You can speed up your ME gains by purchasing the Premium Pass Bundle instead to get a bonus 25 ME instantly, then still earn the 25 ME milestone reward. This means you can get a guaranteed 50 ME in total before counting any random ME drops from Orbs, Chests, Grab Bags, or Sanctum pulls.

How To Get Exactly 125 Mythic Essence

As of June 4, 2026, there is no single direct way to obtain 125 ME. Instead, you need to accumulate it gradually through a combination of the Premium Battle Pass, the Sanctum gacha, Hextech Chest drops, and account leveling rewards.

Under the old Event Pass system, you could exchange 2,200 Event Tokens for 125 ME through the Event Shop. However, Riot retired Event Tokens (and the infinitely repeatable quests) with the launch of the Welcome to Noxus event on Jan. 9, 2025, replacing it with the unified seasonal Battle Pass.

Riot also ended Masterwork Chests and deactivated the Masterwork Milestone track at the end of Season 1 Act 1 in 2025. This means you cannot get Mythic Essence by opening Masterwork Chests or Capsules anymore. Though you can still disenchant Shards, they only yield Blue or Orange Essence.

Mythic Essence: FAQ for Beginners

Mythic Essence can be quite confusing for beginners in League of Legends, but these frequently asked questions (FAQs) should clear the air in no time.

What Is Mythic Essence?

Mythic Essence (ME) is a rare currency in League of Legends used to unlock exclusive cosmetic content rotating in the Mythic Shop, including Skins, Emotes, Chromas, Icons, Accessories, Nexus Finishers, and Achievement Titles.

How Do I Get Mythic Essence Quickly?

The fastest way to get Mythic Essence is to buy the paid track of the Battle Pass, which guarantees 25 ME at its reward milestone. You can then boost your total further via Sanctum pulls, Hextech Chests, Event Orbs, and Grab Bags earned or purchased alongside the pass.

Where Do I Spend Mythic Essence?

Mythic Essence can only be spent in the Mythic Shop. You can find it under the Loot tab of the League of Legends game client. The store rotates a bunch of limited-time cosmetic items.

How Much ME Do Rare Skins Or Items Cost?

Prestige Skins usually cost 100–150 ME, while Mythic Skins and Chromas sell for 125 ME and 35 ME, respectively. You can also buy Emotes for 25 ME, Icons for 5 ME, and Nexus Finishers for 250 ME.

Do I Get ME For Free?

Yes, but it’s painfully slow. You can earn 10 ME after every 50 Summoner Levels past Level 150 through Glorious Champion Capsules. Hextech Chests, Event Orbs, and Grab Bags also reward you with Mythic Essence, though drops are not guaranteed.

Are Drop Rates For ME In Chests High?

No. Most Mythic Essence drops are rare outside guaranteed rewards. For example, Hextech Chests have a roughly 2.68% chance to give 10 ME, while Event Orbs and Grab Bags have a 5.4% chance to reward 10 ME.

What Is “Unvaulting”?

Unvaulting describes when Riot temporarily returns an older Prestige or Mythic cosmetic to the Mythic Shop. When this happens, items are available only for a limited time before they rotate out again.

How Often Does The Mythic Shop Rotate New Content?

The Mythic Shop rotates new limited-time content on different schedules, depending on the category. Featured Content is updated whenever Riot decides, while other offers rotate either Daily, Weekly, or Bi-Weekly.

Advanced Tips For Maximizing Mythic Essence Acquisition

Since you cannot rely on the Token Shop, Masterwork Chests, or Shard disenchanting anymore, you’ll need to be more strategic about how to get Mythic Essence in League of Legends.

#1. Track Mythic Shop Rotations

As a general rule, track Mythic Shop rotations before spending any ME. If an item you want is about to rotate in, hold onto your Mythic Essence until you know how much you need. Unvaulted skins are only available for a limited time, so spending ME on less desirable cosmetics might leave you short when the one you want finally appears.

#2. Plan Battle Pass Purchases

While you’re at it, plan your Battle Pass purchases around those store rotations. The Premium Battle Pass is the fastest and most reliable way to get Mythic Essence, not only offering a guaranteed 25 ME reward through the milestone track, but also plenty of loot with Mythic Essence drop chances.

#3. Treat Battle Pass Loot As Bonus Value

That distinction matters because most other Mythic Essence sources are based on expected value, not guaranteed value.

For example, Event Orbs have only a 5.4% chance to drop 10 ME and a 3.5% chance to drop a Grab Bag, which also has a 5.4% chance to drop 10 ME. This works out to roughly 0.56 ME per Orb on average, meaning 100 Event Orbs would be expected to return around 56 ME over a large number of openings.

However, that does not mean Event Orbs are a reliable way to farm Mythic Essence directly. A better way to look at them is as extra value you’d naturally pick up while progressing through the Battle Pass. The same logic applies to Grab Bags, Hextech Chests, and Ancient Sparks.

They can all add extra ME over time, but none of them are as reliable as the guaranteed Mythic Essence milestone. Overall, the best strategy is to buy the Premium Battle Pass, grind through the reward track, claim the guaranteed 25 ME, and treat any extra Mythic Essence from loot drops or Sanctum pulls as a bonus.
